A Slytherin Aries is a bundle of contradictions. In some ways, they have the potential to be the strongest of their House - the intensity, drive, and brilliant visionary dreams of the Aries combined with the innate leadership skills, the charisma, and the profound sense of self (including the eccentric lack of interest in conforming to what other people think) is stuff of which great magical legends are made. However, a Slytherin Aries has much to learn about politics, knowing who is an appropriate object of trust and who is not trustworthy, knowing when to keep one's mouth shut, and knowing when to avoid acting on impulse in order to use a situation to its best advantage. Although they hate to admit it, these Slytherins are easily manipulated by more cynical, shrewd peers in the Serpent's Den. If they can learn to manage their blind spots, they will go far. Slytherin Aries types can be quite cruel, especially if they have enough physical prowess to bully smaller students; those that are not cruel can still be thoughtless and brutally tactless without actually meaning to cause damage.

----General Character Information---- Personal History: The almost eccentric socialite Magdalena Blair met the heir of the Wright family, Victor Wright, at a social gathering. Magdalena was young and beautiful, if not frivolous, and Victor was immediately taken with her. He dubbed it love and two were married embarrassingly fast. This proved not to be the wisest of moves in the long run as the now Mrs. Wright failed to mention her young son, Gregory, or the fact that she had recently spent most of her late husband’s money. This seemed to set the tone of their relationship. Nevertheless, the two stayed together- more out of social obligation than love- and a year later, Harper was born.
Her father will often say that he knew she would be a character just because of the origin of her name. Indeed it is an almost embarrassing albeit amusing story. Magdalena was very much the fashionista, gladly devouring every issue of Vogue and other such magazines. It was quite appropriate that her daughter’s name reflect her obsession. Poor Victor had no idea that his daughter’s name sprung from Harper’s Bazaar, a muggle fashion magazine, and from a young age, Harper was always instructed to tell her inquiring peers that it was a family name. Of course, she never did listen to her father as the truth was far more entertaining. Part of the reason he wished to keep this quiet was that while he himself couldn’t care either way about the war, many of his associates and friends were pro-Voldemort, so he worried about what people would think of his wife dabbling in muggle culture. Fortunately, that was the extent of it, and as Magdalena had always just been a bit odd, no one really thought too much about it. After all, just because she was intrigued by part of the culture didn’t mean that she cared about the people.
For the most part, her childhood was uneventful. Her mother, who had always wanted a daughter, spoiled her silly, and she was given basically everything she wanted. It’s no wonder that she grew up believing that she was entitled to anything and everything. She was raised on fashion, and her mother always dressed her in the latest designer frocks and read her bedtime stories from the closest magazine. She was constantly dolled up and shown off at her father’s parties, and she was bred to be the perfect lady. Her father really had no control over his wife so he’d merely shake his head and devote himself to his work.
The first real important event was her acceptance into Hogwarts when she was 11. This came as no surprise to her as her parents and half brother were wizards, and she herself had had small bouts of magic that hinted that she was also a witch. She was sorted into Slytherin, like her mother, and for awhile she stuck with her housemates, mainly those of pureblood. Soon though she made more of an attempt to befriend members of the other houses, and this was one of the first times she interacted with muggleborns. While her parents weren’t pro-voldemort in any way, her father especially- and her mother to a much smaller extent- still believed that purebloods were superior and before she left for Hogwarts, she had been instructed to keep her distance. This set off a reevaluation of her parents, and she came to the conclusion that she couldn’t stand the way they were raising her. She began to resent how she was always expected to be proper and perfect so in response, she began to rebel, particularly in her 4th and 5th years. This mostly involved dying her hair outrageous colors or dressing in the most scandalous thing she could find. That and flirting rather inappropriately with the men her father worked with. Needless to say, her parents stopped allowing her to attend their parties.
She did get better as she grew older, but she still doesn’t really see eye to eye with her parents. Even now, she has a habit of trying to piss off her parents at every given opportunity, just because she can. But it has allowed her to become her own person for she refuses to just become a clone of her parents.
Personality: It comes as a surprise to most people that Harper was placed in Slytherin as she’s not exactly the stereotypical Slytherin- she really has no obvious ambition whatsoever and her alliance tends to throw people off. While the stereotypical Snake is ‘evil’, Harper is open and friendly and is basically a social butterfly. Admittedly, most will find her completely shallow, another sign of her atypical status. She’s ridiculously absorbed in fashion and superficial things like appearances, and she’s known to flirt with practically everything male, leading most to call her a tease. But she’s just so charming and effervescent that it’s hard to really hold any of that against her.
One of her more distinctive traits is her love of making people into her projects, regardless of whether or not they want to be taken under her wing. There’s little she loves more than a good makeover, and she’s gotten quite good at conning her friends- or random underclassmen, on occasion- into letting her give them one. It is common to see Harper gushing over someone and declaring that she’s going to adopt them. And maybe she does have a tendency to see these people as her pets, there for her to love and pet and dress up and fangirl. For better or for worse, that’s Harper for you. But she’s harmless, for the most part. While it may be sort of intimidating to for a poor first year to suddenly be faced with Harper in full fangirl mode, she does her best to look out for and take care the rather large group of people she’s decided to adopt.
Harper’s fun loving, and she’s rarely serious. She’s young, and she fully believes that she should act 17 rather than 30. This leads her to not really try her hardest in school, which makes her quite the frustrating student as she usually only puts in the least amount of effort that it would take to get a decent grade. She just doesn’t see the point in studying. If she had no idea what the hell is going on, maybe she’ll pick up a book, but she thinks that a professor should be good enough that they learn everything that they need to know in class. Homework is just busywork in her mind, and if she didn’t understand it in class, she thinks it’s doubtful that she’ll figure it out on her own. Besides, she’s doubts that knowing about the goblin revolts or how to turn a hat into a pig will really help her in the fashion industry. Because of this, you’re far more likely to find her reading a fashion magazine than doing her homework. She usually manages to do alright in the end- as she actually does at least try on her exams- but in general, she’s rather lazy when it comes to school work. She’s lazy in a lot of things, really; she usually just takes things at surface value, and she rarely overanalyzes or thinks deeply about things. She can be perceptive when she’s actually focusing, but usually she just takes the easy route and takes things at a superficial value. She can be rather judgmental of people; first impressions are important to her, and it’s hard to change her opinion about someone.
Instead, her time is spent hanging out with groups of people and discussing frivolous matters and basically acting ridiculously silly. She has a wide social circle, and though she’s only really close to a few people, she’s on good terms with practically everyone. She tends to be very blunt to the point of rudeness but she’s practically mastered the art of saying everything like it was the greatest compliment in the world- keyword in there being ‘practically.’ She has the tendency to think that she’s more charming than she actually is so her tongue has been known to get her in trouble. That being said, she considers her charm one of her greatest strengths. Perhaps it’s because she’s well bred or maybe it’s just because she’s pretty but either way, she’s gotten good at getting people to do what she wants. Some may label her as manipulative but she refuses to see herself as such. She likes to say that she simply knows what she wants and how to get it. And she’s hardly even mean about it. She can be a little selfish, sure, but she would never intentionally hurt someone or put them in danger- unless, of course, they absolutely deserved it.
She isn’t quite as superficial as she seems and she does have causes that she supports. A person’s house or blood doesn’t affect her at all, and such liberal views have gained her a few Slytherin enemies- not to mention the fact that she’s openly anti-Voldemort and quite outspoken about it. She has a strong sense of justice and will not tolerate bullying or unfair treatment of any kind; it really isn’t an uncommon sight to see her march up to someone picking on anyone and promptly hexing them. Or trying to, anyway. And if that doesn’t stop them? Well, she knows plenty of blokes who’d kill themselves to help her, and she’d just set one of them on the bully in question to teach him a lesson. Perhaps that sounds hypocritical, but she doesn’t see why it shouldn’t be an eye for an eye.
While it’s hard to imagine Harper as anything but happy and bubbly, if provoked, she can be a force to be reckoned with, and she hardly ever forgives. It’s hard to get her angry though, and usually, if anyone makes some remark about her, she’ll only roll her eyes and move on. But mess with her friends or anyone weaker? Then you have yourself an enemy for life. Of course, you may not always realize it; often, she’ll act perfectly cordial and friendly around those she dislikes despite plotting against them when their backs are turned. She’ll stop you when you’re doing something particularly vile or offensive, but other than that, she’s more likely to engage in a more subtle combat, the sort that can’t be traced back to her. Contrary to popular belief, there is a reason she was sorted into Slytherin. But if she is openly disliked, she’ll be just as open with her hatred, but more often than not, she finds it too much trouble.
Despite the inordinate amount of time she spends on her appearance, she doesn’t particularly care about what people say or think about her though. If someone came up and insulted her, she would most likely just laugh, and she finds rumors spread about her absolutely hilarious. Her indifference to what people think of her is one of her greatest strengths; she’s confident enough in herself that other people’s opinions on her don’t affect her, and she will happily go about doing her thing no matter what people may say about her. Admittedly, her confidence can often by interpreted as arrogance. She does think highly of herself, and she’s rarely modest.
Strengths: 1. Fashion. Harper likes to think she has a keen eye for style, and she’s already decided that she wants to be a designer when after she graduates so in preparation, she’s spent the past few years making clothes in preparation 2. Determined. If she wants something, be it the latest Marc Jacob kitten heels or her best friend’s boyfriend or perhaps that perfect score in potions, she’ll do whatever it takes to get it. 3. Charismatic. She has a natural charm and way with people, and she’s become the sort of person that one gravitates towards Weaknesses: 1. Rather ADD. She has the attention span of a puppy on drugs. Sure, if there’s something she’s really want, she can be incredibly single minded, but it’s rare for her to focus that much on something. Unless something really captures her interest, she’s has difficulty focusing on things for extended periods of time. It works the same for people and she has a tendency to change her friends rapidly, just because she gets tired of her old ones. 2. Impulsive. If she has an idea, she’ll follow through with it without really giving the consequences much thought. 3. Lazy. She doesn’t really try hard in school because for she firmly believes that most of it won’t help her at all in the fashion world. She only does the minimum work required unless she actually enjoys the subject. 4. Blunt. She freely speaks her mind but she doesn’t really seem to understand that her words have consequences. She relies far too much on her charm and good looks and expects people to forgive her tongue because of said traits but that’s not often the case. 5. Arrogant/spoiled. As a child she was treated as a princess and she’s grown to think of herself as such. She can be rather cocky at times and she’s used to getting what she wants- and she tends to react badly when things don’t go her way. 6. Superficial. Appearances are everything in Harper’s world, and she strives to always look immaculate.
Fears: (Less chronic fears.) She is a bit acrophobic, and this is the real reason why she never liked quidditch- well, that and the fact that it would mess up her hair.
Secrets/Hopes: Not really, no. She doesn’t really keep much a secret.
Physical Description: Harper stands at what she boasts is a model height, reaching just above 5’8. She’s one of those girls who are just naturally thin, and while she does have every intention of remaining thin, she’s fortunate enough not to have to always be counting calories. She has blonde hair that falls just below her shoulders and blue eyes. Despite being gorgeous without it, it’s rare to see her without makeup; she doesn’t see a reason why she shouldn’t enhance her looks as her appearance is one of her greatest strengths. She is always well dressed; she is not a sweatpants and T-shirt sort of girl, and that look practically causes her physical pain. Heels are a must, despite already being tall enough, and when not wearing whatever is en vogue at the moment, she sports clothes that she’s made herself. Body Model: (Please link to an image.) Sample RP post with the character. Please use third person style: If I was a 5th year, where would I be? Harper's first guess had been class before she realized that that made absolutely no sense. Generally, classes weren't held at nine at night. Scratch that thought. Library then? 5th years actually worked, right? She was fairly certain they all did because they were worried about their OWLs. That seemed like a good place to work, not that Harper frequented it often. Like Harper WORKED often.
But no such luck. It was too late to be talking to a teacher though he could be with friends somewhere. Or better word: anywhere- except the grounds, of course. Sadly, she didn't know where to begin. Where did 15 year old boys hang out? Obviously not in the library.
With a defeated sigh, she turned to trudge back to the common room. This had been a thoroughly disheartening search. He hadn't been in the common room, he hadn't been in the library, he hadn't been in any of the random halls she had searched between places...Obviously he no longer existed. That was the only logical conclusion, of course. It was quite sad, really, because she would miss him greatly what with his lack of existence and everything. It was just so tragic when people just up and vanished.
She muttered the Slytherin password and waited patiently for the door open before trooping into the common room dejectedly. But wait, what was this? A familiar voice caught her ear, and she instantly perked up. Success! She grinned delightedly, practically bounding over to the younger boy. "Ottoooooo!" It was quite lucky for him that she wasn't the glomping type or else breathing would probably be very difficult for him at the moment. "I haven't seen you in WEEKS! Months! Years, even!" She surveyed him for a moment, hands on hips. "I would like to know where you have been hiding," she stated, fixing him with her most serious stare. That lasted approximately ten seconds.
